Tim was in his second year of teaching Religious Studies and
Philosophy at King Edward
VI Five Ways
School in Birmingham
when he felt God was calling him to do something less ‘comfortable’. He realised that having moved from college to
university and then straight into a grammar school post, he needed to take some
real time out to grow with God and be a little more courageous in doing His
work.
He wrote to a number of mission organisations for
information, but felt drawn to AFRICAN QUEST, a nine-month mission programme
run by Next Generation Missions and
based at Kaniki Bible
College in Zambia. Having prayed into this seriously, he
received all the confirmation he could ever need that this was God’s will for
his life. So he took a step of faith and
gave up his job, although he was the first African Quest applicant for that
year, and joined African Quest in their 6th year. He went out to Zambia
for the first time, as a member of the AQ team, in September 2004, shortly
before his 25th birthday.
It wasn’t long before Tim’s leadership skills became
apparent, so he was given some extra responsibilities and leadership training
whilst working on the team and took over the leadership of a new team in
September 2005, along with two other new leaders, Robyn from America and Norman
from Costa Rica.
